Solution to network printer problem after updating Windows 10 and 11

Earlier this week, the Microsoft company began distributing cumulative updates for Windows 10 and Windows 11, where problems related to the performance, optimization and security of operating systems were solved, however, the problem of network printers and print servers are still present.

Everything seems to indicate that Windows 10 and Windows 11 have a common problem, they cannot use network printers or print servers. According to the reports issued by the users who have installed the cumulative update of the respective operating systems, the problem is still valid.

Temporary Solution to Network Printer Problems in Windows 10 and Windows 11

For its part, Microsoft has confirmed the failure in both systems and you mentioned that the first problem comes from one of the IPP protocols, which will be fixed with the next update to be released to Windows 10 and Windows 11.

New printers that use the IPP network protocol may not be configured correctly.

Note : IPP is not commonly used in devices designed for home use. The printing environments affected by this problem are most often found in businesses and organizations.

Next steps Microsoft is working on a resolution and plans to release it in a future update.

The second problem seems to indicate that it has to do with the incorrect transmission of printing propertiesAt the moment, it has been fixed in Windows 10, but it is still present in Windows 11.

Print properties defined on that server may not be provided correctly to clients. This issue only affects print servers and not standard network printers. This problem will not cause print operations to fail; however, custom settings defined on the server, such as duplex printing settings, will not be applied automatically, and users will only be able to print with the default settings.

This problem is caused by an incorrect creation of the data file that contains the printer properties. Clients who receive this data file will not be able to use the contents of the file and will instead continue with the default print settings. Servers with default settings will not be affected.

Note : The printer connection methods described in this issue are not commonly used by devices designed for home use. The printing environments affected by this problem are most often found in businesses and organizations.

Alternative solution – IT administrators with administrator privileges can still install printer drivers on the client through other means, such as copying the package drivers from a known good location in the package. Moreover, users can be switched manually to adopt the desired printer settings.

The third and final problem has to do with inability to connect to network printers. This bug has already been fixed in Windows 10 but the solution is still missing for Windows 11.

Devices that want to connect to a network printer may not be connected as there is a possibility that the necessary drivers for their communication will not be downloaded or installed.

This problem has been observed in devices that access printers through a print server, using HTTP connections. When a client connects to the server to install the printer, a directory mismatch occurs, causing the installation files to be generated incorrectly. As a result, the drivers may not be downloaded.
