Microsoft listens to users about Windows 11 default browser issue

Much has been said about changing the default browser in windows 11 . Unfortunately, Microsoft made it a lot harder than it needed to be, but it looks like the company is backing off, as the latest Windows 11 Insider build makes it easier to change your default browser back.

Microsoft published the release notes for Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22509 and the company introduced a big change he didn’t even mention. A Twitter user named Rafael Rivera saw a new button that lets you change the default browser on Microsoft’s latest operating system with a single click, which is how it always should have been.

In the current version of Windows 11, you have to change the default for all the different file types to change the browser, which makes it an unnecessarily arduous process. If this new change makes it to the release version, users will be able to switch to Chrome, Firefox or any browser of their choice much more easily.

Microsoft told TheVerge that it was “implementing customer feedback to customize and control defaults at a more granular level.” However, based on user feedback since it was implemented, it doesn’t seem like anyone is really happy with the change.

This meant that browser manufacturers like Mozilla had to come up with their own solutions, which Microsoft called “inadequate”.

Unfortunately, links via Windows 11 search still open in Edge, and there’s no easy way to change that. But at least you can change the default browser for everything else, which is still a substantial step in the right direction.

It is important to note that this function is located in a Windows 11 Preview , which means that Microsoft could easily remove it before it reaches the release version of Windows 11. Hopefully, the company will see enough positive feedback from users and decide to keep it. on, because it really shouldn’t be that hard stop using edge and switch to any browser you want, even if that browser is “so 2008”.
