The number of cores your processor has is one component that determines the performance of your CPU . In the past, each processor had only one core. Modern CPUs have from two to eighteen and more. Here’s how to check how many cores your processor has.

What do the processor core numbers mean?

The number of cores your processor has is one of several factors that determine the overall performance of your CPU. In its most basic form, a core is a processing unit that performs certain actions. Every action you take on your computer is processed by your CPU, no matter how small or large the task is.

Each core can perform only one task at a time. Naturally, the more cores your processor has, the more tasks it can perform and the more efficient it will be. The fewer cores, the fewer tasks you can perform, the less efficient your CPU is.

That’s not to say that the more cores your CPU has, the better it is. As mentioned, it’s just one of several components that make up CPU performance. You should also take into account things like the CPU type , multithreading or hyperthreading , clock speed etc. As a general rule, the newer the processor, the better it is. i just know i don’t forever it is so

How many cores does my CPU have?

Checking how many cores your processor has is simple, but the process is a bit different between Mac and Windows operating systems.

To find out how many cores your processor has in Windows, open Task Manager by pressing the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+Esc. Once open, click on the “Performance” tab.

Open task manager and go to the Performance tab.

Note: if you don’t see the Performance tab, click “More details”.

On the next screen, you’ll see a lot of details about your CPU, including how many cores it has.

To check how many cores your process has on Mac, click the Apple icon in the top left corner of your desktop, then select “About This Mac” at the top of the dropdown menu.

Open the About This Mac window.

Next, click on “System Report”.

Open your computer's system information.

You will then see the hardware overview of your device. This summary includes the total number of cores.

So there you have it. Checking how many cores your processor has is pretty simple, but again, the more cores you have doesn’t necessarily mean better performance. The best way to see if your computer is up to the task at hand is by benchmarking .
