How to fix or modify bad Apple Maps data

Starting from the fact that no map is perfect, and that all offer approximations, it is certainly irritating when the owners of a certain business see how their address is incorrect or wrong information is displayed.

Many people email us with this problem asking us for help on how they can contact Apple to fix it. The company does not offer direct email support, but we will try to help you with that.

Apple Maps offers a fix feature that has been changed and expanded slightly in recent versions of iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. This way, you don’t have to be a business owner to suggest changes or request corrections.

Of course, wrong directions and routes also affect landlords and tenants, as well as nonprofits, schools, and other businesses.

Here’s how to report bugs or add unlisted places. You can also modify the trading hours of your business or add details of new home services, for example.

  2. Swipe to find ‘Report a problem’ and tap on it.
  3. Review the details displayed.

To add a list:

  5. Click on the ‘Send’ option.

You can also tap the information icon on the map with nothing selected, tapping on ‘Add a lost location’ or ‘Report a problem’. Adding a lost place starts at point 3 of the steps to add a previous list.

To report a problem, click on ‘Map Labels’ to move the marker to the correct location and complete the problem.

How to fix and add from macOS Catalina and earlier versions

To correct a list:

  1. Select the icon for a specific location in Apple Maps.
  2. Click on the information icon (i) and then click on ‘Report a problem’ at the bottom of your dashboard.
  3. Select the type of problem. In Mojave OS these options appear: Map Location, Place Details, Closed Place, or Other Problem. In Catalina OS, only Edit Place Details appears.
  4. Click ‘Continue’.
  5. Take the necessary action associated with that choice (see below).
  6. Click ‘Submit’.

Each of the four actions has a separate process:

  • Map location – move the marker to the correct location.
  • Place details or Edit place details: Review or add the information.
  • Closed place: write a description that provides documentation.
  • Another problem: in free-form text, it explains the problem.

To add a new item in Mojave and earlier versions:

  1. Press ‘Ctrl-click’ and release a pin to then select it.
  2. Click on its information icon (i) and then click on ‘Report a problem’.
  3. Click ‘Add a place’ and click ‘Continue’.
  4. Move the pin to the correct place and then click ‘Continue’.
  5. Choose the type of place, such as ‘Business’ or ‘Landmark’ and fill in the details before clicking ‘Submit’.

The only way to add a list in Catalina OS, which also works in Mojave and earlier versions, is as follows:

  1. Choose ‘Maps> Report a problem’.
  2. Click ‘Add a lost place’ (Catalina) or ‘Add a place’ (Mojave and earlier) and click ‘Continue’.
  3. Move the pin to the correct place and then click ‘Continue’.
  4. Choose the type of place, such as ‘Business’ or ‘Landmark’, to fill in all the details and click ‘Submit’.
