With all that phones can do, it’s easy to forget that they’re phones at the core. On Android, you have the option to change your phone apps (dialer) with something else from the Play Store. We will show you how to do it.

You don’t have to use the stock apps that come with your phone. Google has a phone app which can be installed from the Play Store on most Android phones. There are also other third party options.

If you want to try one of these, you’ll need to set it as the “default” phone app after installing it from the Play Store.

First, swipe down from the top of the screen once or twice, depending on your phone, to open the notification shade and tap the gear icon.

Any apps you have installed that may be the phone’s default app will appear here. Select the one you want to use.

It really is as simple as that! Now every time you receive a phone call, it will come through the app you selected. From now on, you will also use this app to make phone calls. Change default apps it’s an essential part of Android, make sure you’re using it.
