If you have smart elements in your home connected to HomeKit, such as smart lights, plugs, locks or cameras, you should know how convenient it can be to control them from your iPhone or iPad in a centralized way.

Now, if you do not unify everything under the Home umbrella, you will have to resort to using the application of each manufacturer to be able to manage your device, which is a shame given that Apple offers you the possibility of unifying everything under one place. .

What’s more, with iOS 14 and iPadOS 14, Apple has made it even easier. You can add HomeKit to the Control Center, so that you can see a complete selection of your favorite devices from one place, with just a swipe of your finger and without having to use the dedicated app.

There you will find a couple of rows of frequently used startup items along with a button labeled ‘Home Favorites’. You can view the status of those devices or touch the ‘Favorites’ button to see all the devices configured in Home.

If you hold down the controls, you will be able to access more options within each of the elements, as well as see their status.

Changing Home Favorites

Accessing your HomeKit devices from the Control Center requires that they be on your Favorites list. If the device you want is not there, you will have to go to the ‘Home’ application in order to fix it.

  1. Open the ‘Start’ app.
  2. Click on ‘Rooms’ at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Swipe left or right between rooms until you find the device you want to change.
  4. Press and hold the device to reveal its detailed controls.
  5. Tap the gear icon in the lower right to access the settings for that device.
  6. Look for the option to ‘Include in favorites’.

You will have to add devices to your Favorites to be able to access them from the Control Center. You can trim your Favorites list to eliminate those elements that you don’t want to have a presence here if you barely make use of them.
