Everything you need to know about Apple Podcasts Subscriptions

At the Spring Apple Event on April 20, the company began keynote announcing a new subscription service: Apple Podcasts Subscriptions. In this way, it introduced a new way of enjoying podcasts.

In addition to reforming the Apple Podcasts app, the Cupertino firm wanted to offer audio content creators the opportunity to increase and retain their audience with a system more similar to the App Store than to Apple News + or Apple TV +.

These creators, through the Apple Podcasters Program, will be able to offer subscriptions premium to users. But how much will they cost? Will they be available in all countries? When will the new service be released? We solve your doubts.

What is Apple Podcasts Subscriptions?

Until now, the content of the Apple Podcasts app was completely free. That won’t change radically, but the introduction of the Apple Podcasts Subscriptions service means there will be paid podcasts as well.

Until recently, “subscribing to a podcast” simply meant receiving notifications or triggering automatic download of episodes. In March, Apple changed that concept to simply “follow.”

So now “subscribe to a podcast” has a totally different meaning. Doing so will give you many benefits, such as accessing exclusive content or extra content, eliminating advertising within the podcast or even being able to listen to an episode in advance.

Apple ensures that, among the creators who are already part of the program, we find both independent creators and media and companies in the audiovisual world as important as Los Angeles Times and Sony Music Entertainment.

When is Apple Podcasts Subscriptions released?

As we said, Apple took advantage of the April event to announce the new service, but it did not become available immediately afterwards. At the time, the company confirmed that it would premiere in May.

It was not like that, and we have had to wait until this June 15, 2021 for the official premiere of Apple Podcasts Subscriptions.

Will Apple Podcasts Subscriptions be available in Spain and Latin America?

During the announcement of the arrival of Apple Podcasts Subscriptions, Apple confirmed that the new service would be available in more than 170 countries and regions, which should include both Spain and Mexico.

Now that the service is official, all users should see the option to subscribe to different podcasts and content.

How much do Apple Podcasts Subscriptions cost?

The price of this subscription service has not yet been made public beyond the United States (where it starts at $ 0.49). In any case, this will depend on what the creators of each podcast want to charge users to subscribe to their program.

We do know that fees will be paid monthly by default, although creators will have the option to also charge once a year. Also, if they want, they can offer free trials or free episodes.

On the other hand, Apple offers the possibility of subscribing through the Family plan. As with Apple TV + or the Apple One package, that means you can share the same subscription with five other members of your family (at a discounted price).

The company has also confirmed the price to join the Apple Podcasters Program, necessary for each creator who wants to charge a subscription. It is € 19.99 per year.
